After Forty Years in Mental Health, Richard Davies Asks: What If You Stopped Performing and Started Being?

Sydney, Australia – May 26, 2026 – A psychiatric nurse who responded to crises alongside police and ambulance crews now asks you an uncomfortable question. Are you living your life or someone else’s? Richard Davies has spent four decades watching people crumble under the weight of borrowed ambition, polished masks, and empty achievements. He has sat with burned-out executives and weeping teenagers. He has held space for the successful and the shattered. And he has written BEcoming: The Essence of Your True Self to share one truth. You do not need to become someone new. You need to remember who you have always been.

Davies began his career in a state mental hospital in New South Wales, Australia. Those cold corridors taught him a lesson no textbook could. Outdated systems treat people like cases, not humans. He moved to acute care teams, emergency departments, and the PACER Team, where he worked directly with police and ambulance services. Every crisis showed him the same pattern. People lose themselves long before they break down. They have been wearing masks for years. They silence their inner voice. They chase approval from parents, bosses, and strangers on social media. Then one day, they cannot recognize their own face.

BEcoming directly targets the exhausted high achiever, the quiet people pleaser, and anyone who has ever asked, “Is this really it?” The book dismantles the illusion of arrival. It helps readers distinguish between their inner voice and inner critic. It guides them to shed three common masks: the Good Child, the Overachiever, and the Caretaker. And it offers practical exercises for redefining success not as a finish line, but as a feeling of alignment and peace.

Davies does not write like a professor or a guru. He writes like someone who has sat in the mud with real people. His sentences are short. His tone is patient. He never lectures. He invites. You will find no complicated jargon, no seven-step formulas, no empty promises. Instead, you will find reflective journaling prompts, body-based exercises for listening to intuition, and a gentle voice that says, “You are already enough. You just forgot.”

The book also introduces a powerful final exercise. Readers choose three “BE” words that capture who they truly want to become. Not what they want to own or achieve. Who they want to be. Those three words become a daily compass, a quiet rebellion against a world that demands performance over presence.

BEcoming: The Essence of Your True Self is now available worldwide. Readers can purchase the book on Amazon, at all major online book retailers, and through physical bookstores.

About Richard Davies

Richard Davies does not speak from an ivory tower. He speaks from the back of an ambulance, the floor of a psychiatric ward, and the boardroom of a public company he founded. He trained as a registered nurse in the 1980s. He led crisis responses for the PACER Team. He also built Asset Risk Management Limited from the ground up. Rotary International gave him a Paul Harris Fellowship for his youth leadership work. But his real credential is this. He has listened for forty years. And he still believes that being real matters more than being impressive.
